INTERNATIONAL SUSTAINABILITY INITIATIVE

Zero Balance Program in Argentina

The Zero Balance Program in Argentina has been reporting great success and has received several awards in recognition of its positive impact on the environment and for educating school children to deal with the issue of climate change. Under the project, the notebooks loaded with CO2 calculating software along with the training to work with this program was provided to the school children.

The kids used the know-how, software and computer to assess the amount of energy used in their homes and in their neighbourhoods. Once the amount of energy used and thus CO2 emitted was calculated, the children determined the number and type of trees that need to be planted to offset the CO2 emissions. Finally, the tree plantation was organised to achieve zero emission [zero balance] in their communities.
