Greening Financial Institutions » People | Planet | Profit
Building sustainable economies require
heavy investments. Public funding of green infrastructure
projects and subsidies to private consumers to go green are
vital steps but not sufficient to help transform the economies
from high to low carbon and sustainable economies. The role of
financial institutions is critical to stimulate the market and
make resources available for greening the economies. Moreover,
growing demand of environmental technologies also opens new
business opportunities for financial institutions.
As part of The International Sustainability Initiative,
Sustainable Banking Program is being introduced for greening
bank facilities and operations and for developing green
financial products and services. A “Certified Banker for
Sustainability” program is being developed to produce bankers
qualified to meet the requirements of green economies. The
“Bankers for Sustainability” will also contribute in reducing
CO2 emissions at financial institutions and thereby making them
role models in their communities.
Furthermore, an International Conference on Greening Financial
Institutions will be held in Karlsruhe, Germany from 5th to 6th
of October 2010.
